The way the magic and its results were described made it feel very real and properly – well – magical. It was a clever use of Tarot and the fact that the girls had an affinity for one ‘suit’ of magic was a clever way to limit power – even if the Kappa’s could share their powers with each other as well. The magical system was very clever and easy to follow. It was a clever way to show the reader both sides of the Kappa’s. I loved the style of this story as we swapped points of view between Scarlett an established witch vying to become president of the Kappa sorority and Vivi a freshman who at the start of the book has no idea that she’s a witch. As something I will never be part of it all feels slightly untouchable (and I definitely am not sorority material even if I had had an American education). From the odd custom of a dorm room shared with a complete stranger to the mysterious elitism of the sorority system. Added to that we had witchiness as well.Īs a Brit I’ve always found American university life fascinating. It had everything I wanted from a sorority story – tight friendships, amazing sorority house, secrecy and a bit of bitchiness. I really enjoyed this tale of a Sorority of Witches hiding in plain sight as the most exclusive sorority on campus.
